The University of Michigan-Dearborn Player of the Week is sophomore Andrew Capone, a sophomore on the Wolverine baseball team, it was announced on Wednesday.
The Warren, Mich., native helped UM-Dearborn to a 5-3 record, all against conference opponents, pushing the Wolverine record to 8-4 in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference. The Wolverines currently sit in a four-way tie with Madonna University, Lawrence Tech, and the University of Northwestern Ohio for second place in the league. UM-Dearborn swept the Crusaders on Tuesday.
Capone recorded runs in seven consecutive games last week, scoring nine times on 11 hits while adding 10 RBIs from the leadoff spot, starting all eight games in centerfield.
Capone has put together a successful sophomore campaign so far, surpassing his totals in runs, hits, RBIs and walks from a season ago. He ranks second on the Wolverines with 28 runs and 39 hits, while his 21 RBIs has him third on the team.
Capone and the Wolverines step out of conference play against Spring Arbor University at 3 pm on Thursday in Spring Arbor, Mich.
