The University of Michigan-Dearborn Player of the Week is men’s cross country freshman Ryan Exell, it was announced Wednesday.
The first year student-athlete from Canton, Mich. has received the honor for the second time this season, the first Wolverine to do so.
Exell played a vital role last weekend in a historic event for the men’s cross country program.
For the first time, the UM-Dearborn men's cross country team finished an intercollegiate meet in first place, as the Wolverines won the 2018 Lansing Invitational hosted by Lansing Community College at Grand Woods Park in Lansing, Mich.
Exell lead the Wolverines to a first-place finish as they were three points better than the host school. Exell finished 10th overall in the race with a time of 25 minutes, 56.9 seconds, a new personal and school record. It was the first race under 26 minutes by any UM-Dearborn student-athlete in an 8k.
Exell and the Wolverines continue to build toward the postseason at the Jayhawk Invitational hosted by Muskegon Community College Friday, Oct. 12 in Muskegon, Mich.
