Dearborn, MI - The Wolves
notched their first win of the 2012 season 8-7 over Northwood University. Defensive breakdowns allowed the Timberwolves
to score on nearly every possession in the first quarter and would eventually
take a 6-2 lead at the ten minute mark of the second quarter.
After a few key adjustments
on the defensive end of the field the Wolves would completely shut down the
Timberwolves offense for the next twenty-seven minutes of game play. During that span, the Wolves offense grinded
away to take a 7-6 lead off a door step goal by Junior attackman Dane Haskin
(Lincoln Park, MI) which was assisted by Freshman midfielder Colten Lorenz
(Allen Park, MI). However, the Timberwolves
answered back just thirty-two seconds later to tie the game at 7 apiece with
thirteen minutes remaining in the game.
What would ultimately be the game
winning goal came unassisted from Junior midfielder Kevin LaHaie (Plymouth, MI)
at the seven minute mark of the fourth quarter.
Despite losing the face-off
and ground ball battle, the Wolves man-up unit and clearing game was much
improved from the first two matches of the season.
The offense was led by Dane
Haskin (2g, 2a) and freshman Dylan Hatcher (3g, 1a). On the defensive side of the ball, freshman
Alex Miller was exceptional notching countless take-aways in the win.
The Wolves hope to build off
this win as they face Butler University in their first conference match-up the
season this Saturday. The game will be
played at West Bloomfield High School on Saturday, March 24th at
