Southfield, MI - The men's basketball team started out 2013 with a 69-66 win over the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils Saturday. While the two teams shot equally well, 47% for the Wolves, 45% for the Blue Devils, it was the Wolves ability to get to the free throw line that made the difference. Michigan-Dearborn (4-13, 2-7) made one more free throw, 25, than Lawrence Tech (2-15, 1-8) attempted, 24.
Senior Julius Porter did not shoot the ball well on the day going 3 for 14 on the day, but the senior drew fouls and went 11 for 12 from the charity stripe. That allowed him to lead the way with 17 points. Porter also made three clutch free throws in the final 51 seconds of the game to seal the win for Michigan-Dearborn. Sophomore Jamiel Strickland went 6 for 7 from the field scoring 15 points in the game. Sophomore Khalil Beidoun gave the Wolves 25 great minutes grabbing five rebounds, two steals, and scoring eight points.
The basketball team will next play Wednesday night at 7:30pm when the Wolves welcome the Madonna Crusaders to the field house.
