Dearborn, MI - Two games this week, two games scoring 31 points in each game for senior guard Julius Porter. Porter's 31 points were not enough Wednesday night, but they were Saturday night. Michigan-Dearborn defeated the Siena Heights Saints 74-70. The Wolves (5-14, 3-8) outrebounded the Saints (5-14, 4-8) 35-29 which proved to be the difference in the game.
The two teams would go back and forth early in the first half before Michigan-Dearborn went on a 8-0 run to take a seven point lead. Porter's late three point baskett gave the Wolves a 10 point lead, 37-27 at halftime. Porter had 14 points in the first half while shooting over 50% in the half including going 2 for 3 from beyond the three-point arc.
In the second half, Siena Heights went on a 14-0 run in a four minute span to take a four point lead with 12:30 left in the game. Turnovers and fouls by the Wolves aided the Saints in their run. The two teams would continue to fight back and forth until the last minute. With the game tied at 70 after junior Jeff Fick scored his 14th point of the night, the Wolves would sink four free throws, and hold the Saints without a point in the last 1:25 of the game. Sophomore Khalil Beidoun's free throw with six seconds left sealed the victory for the Wolves. Porter finished the game with 31 points, 4 assists, and 3 steals. Junior Dustin Sielski had 10 rebounds and 6 points in 24 minutes of playing time.
The men's basketball team will next play at Concordia University on Wednesday night, January 16th at 8:00pm.
