DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan Dearborn Men's basketball team will be hosting an Alumni Game on Friday October 25th. The game will tip-off at 7:00 pm. It will pit a team of UM-Dearborn Alumni against this season's current squad. The contest will serve as one of two exhibitions for this year's squad. The second will occur on October 29th when the Wolverines travel to Saginaw Valley State University.
"When you have an event like this you hope to learn something about your team before tipping it up in a real contest" said head coach John Mackson when asked about the Alumni game. "Our Alumni will challenge us with their size and physicality," Mackson added. This year's team, which features 11 players that did not suit up a year ago, will need the exhibition games to find out exactly what each player brings to the table.
The Wolverines also hope that this game will help to bridge the gap between the past teams and the current team. Mackson wants this event to be a success, "We need the support of our Alumni; they are the lifeblood for any good program. You have to appreciate the past to know where you are going." The program is hoping to bring in an 18 member alumni squad.
The Alumni Game will tip-off at 7:00pm. The men's basketball staff is currently looking for players to fill the alumni squad. If you would like to play please email Asst. Head Coach Ron Kochan who will get you all the necessary details at firstname.lastname@example.org As usual students and children under 12 will be admitted to the event free of charge.
This Alumni Game will be followed on Saturday, October 26th by a Midnight Madness Event. The Midnight Madness Event will feature a dunk contest and an inter-squad scrimmage. There will be a variety of contests for fans to compete in as well.
