Freshman women's cross country runner Julia Kassem qualified for the 2013 NAIA Women's Cross Country National Championships which will be held on Saturday, November 23rd in Lawrence, Kansas. Kassem led the Wolverines all season long with her fast times in each race. At the WHAC Champnioship on Saturday November 9th, Kassem finished in 11th place overall, which was good enough to qualify for the National Tournament.
Going to the National Tournament is not all for Kassem, she was also named to the WHAC All-Conference Honorable Mention Team. Kassem, a freshman from Northville, MI, will compete against the best at the NAIA National Championship as 103 individuals will be competing on November 23rd in Lawrence, Kansas. Kassem is the second Wolverine to qualify for the NAIA Women's Cross Country National Champnioship since cross country became a varsity sport in 2011.
In addition to Kassem receiving a conference award, one other women's cross country runner was named to the Champions of Character Team. Junior Mallory Nemeth, from Allen Park, MI, was named to the Champions of Character Team. Members of the Champions of Character Team embody the five core values of the NAIA which are integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship, and servant leadership.
