Fort Wayne, IN - The hockey team took to the road Saturday evening to finish the home-home series against the Indiana Tech Warriors. This is the third time the two teams have played with the Warriors winning 3-2 in overtime. and Michigan-Dearborn winning 4-3 Friday night. So Saturday's game was set to be a good one, and it was. The Wolverines jumped out to the early lead with sophomore Jeff McFarland scoring just one minute and twenty-nine seconds into the game. Michigan-Dearborn took that 1-0 lead into the second period.
The second period was action packed. The Wolverines would score early in the period when sophomore Andrew Palushaj scored just over a minute into the period. Indiana Tech would respond in a big way. The Warriors scored three goals in a three minute and thirty-nine minute span to take a 3-2 lead. Michigan-Dearborn would respond when freshman Kevin Bechard tied the game just past the halfway mark of the second period. After the flurry of goals in the first 11 minutes of the second period, neither team scored the rest of the game including overtime.
That would lead to a shootout. Indiana Tech would score first in the shootout, but sophomore Ryan Urso continued the shootout by scoring in the third round. Neither team scored until round eight when Bechard would score, but the Warriors would also score. After both teams did not score in round nine, the Wolverines did not score in the tenth round either. The Warriors Alex Gregorich ended the game firing one past sophomore goalie Nate Ferris for the 4-3 win.
McFarland ended the game with one goal and two assists while Palushaj had one goal and one assist. Ferris made 28 saves in the game. The hockey team will travel to Kent State on Friday and Saturday to take on the Golden Flashes at 7:30pm both nights.
