Beverly Hills, MI - The men's lacrosse team hosted the Aquinas College Saints Saturday afternoon, and the two teams battled all day and into two overtimes. Michigan-Dearborn started out fast scoring three goals in the first eight minutes of the game. The two teams exchanged goals the rest of the first quarter as the Wolverines led 5-2 heading into the second quarter. The Saints struck quickly and often in the second quarter. Aquinas scored five consecutive goals in the second quarter to take a 7-5 lead. The Wolverines scored twice to tie the game before halftime.
Goals were plentiful in the third quarter as Aquinas scored four of the next five goals. Michigan-Dearborn would respond scoring four consecutive goals to take a one goal lead. The Saints would score with 21 seconds left to tie the game at 12. Defense and goaltending were on display the rest of the game. The teams exchanged goals twice in the fourth quarter with freshman Anders Rasmussen (FR/Ann Arbor, MI) tying the game at 14 with 5:37 left. That would be the final goal of regulation. Neither team scored in the first overtime, but Aquinas scored with 3:48 left in the second overtime to win 15-14.
Junior Hannibal Roda scored five goals and had three assists. Freshman Brendan Salva (FR/Washington Township, MI ) scored three goals and had one assist. Senior Andrew Popp (SR/Southgate, MI) made 12 saves in the game. The lacrosse team is off until April 6th when they travel to Sylvania, OH to take on Lourdes University.
