DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team fell to the University of Northwestern Ohio Racers in three sets in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
The Wolverines held tight with the Racers early in the first set, but UM-Dearborn eventually fell 25-17. UNOH kept the momentum going to take the second and third sets 25-6, 25-13, dropping the Wolverines to 8-9 overall and 1-5 in the WHAC. The Racers improve to 10-11 overall and 2-4 in the WHAC.
Colby DeMare (SR/Dearborn MI) led the UM-Dearborn attack with nine kills, while adding five digs. Katherine Nealy (SO/Southfield, MI) and Briann Alspaugh (JR/St. Louis MI) each chipped in with four kills. Daniella Barile (FR/Plymouth MI) led the Wolverines with 20 assists and Taylor Bejma (SO/Garden City) recorded a team-high 10 digs. Shalya Malls finished with five digs and two kills.
UNOH finished with a .437 hitting percentage and recorded 14 aces as a team. Leah Hoffman posted a match-high 10 kills for the Racers.
The Wolverines continue WHAC play against Cornerstone University at 1 p.m. Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
