DEARBORN, Mich. - After falling behind by two sets, the University of Michigan-Dearborn volleyball team rallied to take the third in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference matchup against Lawrence Tech University Wednesday at the The UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse. The Blue Devils were able to answer back to close out the Wolverines in four.
The Wolverines dropped the first two sets 25-20 and 25-14, before storming through LTU 25-14 in the third. The Blue Devils secured the win with a 25-10 victory in the fourth. The loss drops UM-Dearborn to 8-12 overall and 1-8 in the WHAC.
Briann Alspaugh (JR/St. Louis MI), who played all six rotations for the Wolverines, continues to improve her attacking game. Alspaugh led the Wolverines with eight kills, while adding two services aces, four digs and two total blocks. Shayla Smalls (SO/Canton, MI) added seven kills and five digs, while Colby DeMare (SR/Dearborn MI) added six kills. Setter Daniella Barile (FR/Plymouth MI) had a strong match with 29 assists.
The Wolverines had one of their strongest defensive matches in conference play, led by Libero Raechel Warchock (SR/Jackson, MI) with a team-high 17 digs, while Taylor Bejma (SO/Garden City) added nine digs.
LTU got 11 kills each from Alisha Stidam and Briana Reum, while Kristi Doherty had a match-high 40 assists.
The Wolverines look to break through in a triangular against Kalamazoo College and Albion College Saturday in Albion, Mich.
