SPRING ARBOR, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team fell behind early and could not recover in a loss to Spring Arbor University Tuesday in Spring Arbor, Mich.
The Wolverines trailed 20-4 after the first, but battled the rest of the way. UM-Dearborn could not cut into the lead significantly, as the Cougars came away with the 67-48 win. UM-Dearborn is now 2-2 this season.
Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) led the UM-Dearborn offense with 12 points on 4-of-9 shooting, while adding six rebounds and a pair of blocks. Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) posted a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI) finished with eight points, six rebounds and three assists, while Arryn Dochenetz (SO/Livonia, MI) came off the bench to add eight points.
The Wolverines shot 20-of-70 from the field, 3-of-18 from deep and 5-of-7 from the free-throw line. UM-Dearborn had nine assists compared to 29 turnovers as a team.
Kylie Townsley led the Cougars with 16 points and six rebounds, while Autumn Goggin also scored 16. Spring Arbor shot 25-of-72 from the field, 3-of-17 from behind the 3-point line and 14-of-20 on free throws.
The Wolverines continue nonconference play against Roosevelt University at 2 p.m. Saturday in Chicago, Ill.
