DEARBORN, Mich. - The Unviersity of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team plays two Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests this week, starting with a trip to Aquinas College at 6 p.m. Wednesday. The Wolverines host Lourdes University at 1 p.m. Saturday as UM-Dearborn will have a ceremony following the game to dedicate the new hardwood floor.
The Wolverines continue to show strong signs of improvement against the top teams in the WHAC. After breaking through with a conference win over Concordia University just before the holiday break, the Wolverines returned to host Cornerstone University and Madonna University in the first games of the new year. UM-Dearborn battled both teams to the final whistle before falling. With the first half of the conference schedule coming to a close, the Wolverines will look to turn some more of their close games into wins the rest of the way.
Sophomores Kendall Rose (SO/Canton, MI) and Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI) each scored in double figures in both games last week. Rose scored a team-high 14 points, including three 3-pointers against the Golden Eagles, while adding seven rebounds, six assists and two steals. Against the Crusaders, Rose totaled 12 points, five rebounds and four assists. Spala was a perfect 3-of-3 from deep against Madonna to finish with 11 points, while adding a team-high seven rebounds.
The Wolverines closed the 2015-16 season with a win over Aquinas 73-52. The win snapped a three-game losing streak to the Saints.
UM-Dearborn has dropped three straight to Lourdes, including an 81-71 decision earlier this season in Sylvania, Ohio.
