DEARBORN, Mich. — After a close battle in the first half, the University of Northwestern Ohio pulled away from the University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team in the second half in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests Wednesday at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
The Racers scored 43 points in the second half to top the Wolverines 81-50, dropping UM-Dearborn to 7-22 overall and 4-17 in the WHAC heading into the season finale on Saturday.
The Racers led from the early going despite the Wolverines battling back in the second quarter to cut the deficit to 11 at the break. The Racers used the 3-pointer to extend their lead in the second half, hitting nine shots from behind the line in the contest.
Leading the way for the Wolverines was Natalie Spala (SO/Livonia, MI) with 13 points. Spala shot 5-for-9 from the field and added five rebounds. Emily Heinrich (SO/South Lyon, MI) pitched in with 11 points and a team-high seven rebounds off the bench.
The Wolverines went 20-for-56 as a team, made 3-of-14 shots from long range and were 7-of-11 from the line. UM-Dearborn had 13 assists compared to 21 turnovers.
UNOH had four players score in the double digits, led by Kierra Billingsley's 18, including four 3-pointers. The Racers shot 28-for-63 from the field, finishing with 14 assists and 13 steals.
The Wolverines will host its last game of the season against Aquinas College at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Fieldhouse in Dearborn, Mich.
