ROCHESTER, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's and women's cross country teams got the 2017 season started at the Golden Grizzly Invite hosted by Oakland University Friday in Rochester, Mich.
The Wolverines enter the year with the largest roster in program history for fifth-year head coach Joe Horka. The Wolverine men finished sixth out of 12 teams, while the women were seventh out of 12, as several first-year UM-Dearborn runners started their careers with strong performances
The men were led by freshman Josh Mussen (FR/Livonia, MI) with a 15th-place finish in the 6K race with a time of 20:13.5. Fellow freshman Josh Williams (FR/Saint Clair, MI) was 30th in 20:47.2, while the team's lone senior, Sean Nowak (SR/Trenton, MI), was 35th in 21:05.2.
The women were led by freshman Victoria Hebda with a 23rd-place performance in the 4K race, crossing the line in 15:42.8. Senior Megan Seccombe took 37th to open her final season, while freshman Julia Cercone was 53rd.
The Wolverines continue the 2017 season at the Calvin Knight Invite Saturday in Grand Rapids, Mich.
