Chris Haltinner enters his fourth season coaching the Wolverines in 2016-17, coming off one of the best seasons in program history that included a trip the ACHA National Tournament and a GLCHL League Championship.
Under Haltinner, UMD has returned to prominence in the region and the team looks to continue its ascension to the top of the national rankings, coming into 2016-17 ranked 12th in the preseason poll.
Haltinner has an overall record of 60-56-7, with two winning seasons. In 2015-16, Haltinner coached ACHA First Team All-American Ryan Urso, while freshman Tyler Groat was named to the ACHA All-Rookie Team. Goaltender Nate Ferris was named the Most Valuable Player of the GLCHL Tournament, while Groat earned Rookie of the Year honors. Urso and Groat were named to the GLCHL All-League First Team, while Groat was on the All-Rookie Team and Urso was placed on the All-Defensive Team.
Prior to taking the head coaching position at UMD, Haltinner worked as a goalie coach and later as an assistant coach for the Wolverines. He started his coaching career working at the Mitch Korn Goalie Camps. Korn is the goalie coach for the Washington Capitals of the NHL.
This season, Haltinner has signed with the St. Clair Shores Fighting Saints of the FHL to serve as an assistant and goalie coach, while continuing to coach youth and AAA goalies in the region. He also serves as the University of Michigan-Dearborn Athletics Admissions Liaison.
Haltinner attended Henry Ford Community College and Schoolcraft College where he studied firefighting and learned to be a paramedic.
