Joe Horka is entering his fifth season as the head men's and women's cross country coach at the University of Michigan-Dearborn. The Wolverines saw improved success in the 2016 season, with Alex Krasuski becoming the first male athlete in program history run an 8K race in under 27 minutes.
The Wolverines have earned several awards in Horka's time with the program, including sweeping the annual Chancellor's Awards at the 2017 All-Sports Banquet. Emily Eccelton took the female award, while Krasuski was named the male recipient. Sam Parks won the Chancellor's Award for the men's team in 2016.
The 2015-16 women's cross country team combined for the highest GPA of any Wolverine team that academic year with a combined 3.24. Over Horka's first four seasons with the teams, the Wolverines have combined for 14 WHAC All-Academic Team members (nine men, five women) and 11 NAIA Scholar Athlete honors (seven men, four women)
During college, Horka competed for Madonna University, where he was a team captain. He was named the Crusaders Male Scholar Athlete of the Year in 2007-08, while earning two NAIA Scholar Athlete awards.
Horka graduated from Madonna in 2009 with a Bachelor of Science/Criminal Justice degree, while earning his Juris Doctorate from from the University of Miami in 2011.
