Kuhlman hired as first UM-Dearborn Golf Coach

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn Department of Athletics & Recreation is excited to announce the hiring of Kelly Kuhlman as the first UM-Dearborn Men's and Women's Golf Head Coach, it was announced Wednesday.

Kuhlman will begin leading the Wolverine teams immediately, as the programs are set to start competition in 2019-20 as a member of the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference and the NAIA.

"Becoming the head coach of UM-Dearborn is a dream come true for me," Kuhlman said. "As a golf professional with a passion for growing the game, I enjoy coaching players and watching them grow."

Kuhlman has extensive experience coaching at the high school level and has made a name for herself as a PGA Golf Professional. Her most recent high school coaching position was a Worthington Kilbourne High School in Worthington, Ohio. She has also coached high school varsity teams at Rochester Adams High School in Rochester, Mich., Beaumont Girls School in Cleveland, Ohio, and she was the head coach at Frankenmuth High School in Frankenmuth, Mich., from 2006-2012.

"The addition of golf will increase sport opportunities at UM-Dearborn. Kelly's passion to coach and teach along with her commitment to student-athlete development and success makes us excited to watch her guide our new programs. She's a natural fit and leader."

Most recently, Kuhlman has worked as an Independent Teaching Professional with Kuhlman Golf, which is based in Michigan and Ohio. With Kuhlman Golf, she helped build and develop programs to increase women's and junior participation in the sport, while overseeing camps and leagues at various levels for junior players.

Kuhlman is a Class-A PGA and LGPA Professional and played in the 2006 and 2009 US Open Local Qualifiers, as well as several state open competitions throughout the years. She has worked with several top golf teachers and academies in her time as a coach and was a member of the Methodist University golf team from 1998-2002. Kuhlman is also a part of the Michigan PGA Growth of the Game Committee.

Kuhlman is a native of Cleveland, Ohio.
