Tim Ames, a native of Woodhaven, Mich., enters his second season coaching the Wolverines in 2020-21. Ames will look to continue the success UM-Dearborn found in it’s inaugural season after posting a 19-2-0 record (21-2-0 including forfeits) in 2019-20 while closing out the season as the No. 5 team in the ACHA DII West Region.
Under Ames, the season was highlighted with a 10-4 victory over University of Michigan-Ann Arbor (ACHA D1) and a weekend road-series sweep of Liberty University (ACHA DII No. 2 Southeast Region) that closed out the year, while junior forward Claudia Maguire was named to the ACHA All-Athletic First Team.
Ames has been an ice hockey coach in the Southeast Michigan area for more than 30 years, leading travel teams, boys and girls AAA teams, as well as 13 years coaching at the high school level. Ames is currently the head coach for the Wyandotte boys U12 and is an assistant coach at Monroe St. Mary's Catholic.
Ames is a former Police Lieutenant for the City of Woodhaven, retiring after 30 years. Tim's wife Julie Ames is a math teacher at Riverview High School and is a graduate of UM-Dearborn. Ames has four children, all either graduated from or are in college. His son John Ames is currently a member of the UM-Dearborn men's ice hockey team.
