ANN ARBOR, Mich.-- The University of Michigan-Dearborn (5-8, 1-1 WHAC) women's volleyball team hosted the Lawrence Tech Blue Devils (7-7, 0-2 WHAC) in their home opener at Cliff Keen Arena. Sydney Eggleton and Kielee Tondryk both had double-digit kills in the 3-0 sweep of the Blue Devils.
Both teams traded points early on in the first set. The Wolverines found themselves in their largest deficit of the night, trailing 11-7. However, the Wolverines stayed composed and used a balanced attack to rattle off five straight points to take the 12-11 lead. Sydney Eggleton was unstoppable in the first set leading the Maize & Blue with six kills. Eggleton's effort helped the Wolverines take control of the set leading to a 25-20 victory.
Set two saw the Blue Devils jump out to an early lead. However, Regan Sliwinski's dynamite serve helped the Wolverines claw back and take a commanding 15-9 lead. Their largest lead of the night came after a 7-1 run capped off by an ace from Regan Rose. The Maize & Blue fought off a mini-run from the Blue Devils and claimed the second set after Sliwinski hammered one down for the set point.
The Wolverines needed to weather the storm one final time in the last set as the third set saw the lead exchange hands six times. Tondryk took over the match, scoring three of the Wolverine's final six points en route to the 3-0 sweep of the Blue Devils.
The Wolverines host Indiana Tech on Friday (Sept 16) at Henry Ford College. The match is scheduled to start at 7:00 p.m.
