Bio

Adam Wheeler was appointed the Cross Country Head Coach in January 2026. 

Wheeler enters his first season at the helm of the Cross Country program. Wheeler brings a lifelong passion for the sport and a proven record of success as both an athlete and a coach to UM-Dearborn. His running career began at Traverse City Senior High School, where he was a varsity All-State track and field athlete and a member of the school’s third-place Division I cross country team.

He continued his athletic career at Eastern Michigan University, competing as a four-year, three-sport varsity athlete in indoor track, outdoor track, and cross country. A contributor to multiple MAC Championship teams, he also earned Academic All-Conference honors. He graduated with honors from EMU with a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, specializing in Computer Information Systems.

With experience shaped under some of the nation’s most decorated coaches, Wheeler has held several assistant coaching roles at both the high school and collegiate levels. Most notably, he served as the assistant cross country coach at the University of Michigan–Dearborn. He spent four years as an assistant coach at Lawrence Technological University, where he helped guide the men’s program to its first-ever NAIA Championship berth.

Coach Wheeler now brings his competitive background, technical expertise, and athlete-first coaching philosophy to his new role as Head Coach, committed to building a high-performance culture rooted in consistency, development, and teamwork.
