GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team split a road doubleheader at Cornerstone on Saturday, earning a 9-4 victory in game one before falling 10-2 in the nightcap.
With the split, the Wolverines move to 7-11 overall and 1-1 in conference play.
Michigan-Dearborn opened the day with a strong offensive performance in the 9-4 win. After plating a run in the second inning, the Wolverines broke the game open in the third as Maegen Boehm launched a three-run home run to give Michigan-Dearborn a 4-0 lead.
Cornerstone responded with four runs in the bottom half of the inning to tie the game, but the Wolverines answered immediately. Lindsay Marlewitz delivered a two-run double in the fourth to regain the lead, and Michigan-Dearborn added insurance in the sixth on a three-run double from Kendyl Gearhart to seal the win.
Boehm was a key contributor on both sides, finishing with three RBIs at the plate while also earning the complete-game victory in the circle. She allowed just five hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out one.
At the plate, Michigan-Dearborn tallied 11 hits, with Braylin Grueter and Marlewitz each recording multi-hit games.
In game two, Cornerstone jumped ahead early and maintained control throughout in a 10-2 victory.
The Golden Eagles scored three runs in the second inning and added four more in the fourth to build separation. Michigan-Dearborn got on the board in the third on an RBI single from Ava Craft and added another run in the fifth, but could not overcome the early deficit.
Craft led the Wolverines offensively in the second game with two hits and an RBI, while Kayla Finlaw added a double.
Michigan-Dearborn will look to build on the game one performance as it continues conference play.
