DEARBORN, Mich.-- The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's soccer team opens the 2022 season on Saturday (Aug 20) against Indiana University Kokomo. The match is slated to kick off at 4:30 inside Kokomo Municipal Stadium.
The 2021 season saw the Wolverines finish with a 2-9-1 overall record and 1-8-1 in WHAC competition. UM-Dearborn claimed a 2-1 victory over Bethel College in their season opener and added a 5-3 win over Rochester in the team's final road contest.
The Wolverines return their top two scorers from the 2021 season in Rena Arabi and Emmi Pinkowski. Pinkowski led the Maize & Blue in scoring and started in seven of the eight matches she played. Arabi tied Pinkowski for the team lead in goals, scoring two goals apiece. In addition, Amber Festian returns to UM-Dearborn and will again serve as the Wolverine goalkeeper this season. Festian saved 52 shots during the 2021 season.
Scouting IU Kokomo
The Cougars returned much of their talent from their 6-9-2 record in 2021. Keely Hoopingarner led the Cougars in points in 2021 and returned to pace the Cream and Crimson scoring attack. Alicia Burns posted an unblemished record in net, recording three wins without a loss.
The Wolverines return home for their home opener against Bluffton on Wednesday (Aug 24) at 7 p.m.
