DEARBORN, Mich. - The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team opened the home portion of the 2017-18 schedule with a win over Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opponent Lawrence Tech in front of a large crowd of supporters Thursday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
After leading 1-0 through one period, the Wolverines exploded for four in the second and three more in the third to take the contest 8-0. The win moves No. 7 UM-Dearborn to 2-1 overall and 1-0 against WHAC teams.
Justin Dunn (SO/Trenton, MI) got the Wolverines on the board in the first on a feed from Nic LaBurn (JR/Northville, MI), as UM-Dearborn took the late lead in the period after missing on several opportunities in the early minutes. The second period was all UM-Dearborn as Kevin Bechard (JR/Trenton, MI), Tyler Groat (JR/Wyandotte, MI), Dunn and Andrew Spiegel (JR/Riverview, MI) each found the back of the net.
Christian Ramage (SO/Taylor, MI) broke out in the third period with two goals, while Andrew Palushaj (SR/Livonia, MI) got in on the action with his first of the night to close out the scoring. LaBurn finished with three assists, while Dunn, Groat and Silas Johnson (FR/Calgary, Alberta, Canada) each added two. Conor Cunningham (FR/Trenton, MI), Troy Saunders (JR/Canton, Mich.) , Justin Berezinski (FR/Lansing, MI), Chase Best (FR/Plymouth, MI) and Kyle Schnettler (SO/Metamora, Mich.) each got on the score sheet with a helper.
Making his first start in net for the Wolverines was Adam Ranck (SO/West Bloomfield, MI). He got the shutout, stopping all 21 shots he faced. The Wolverines finished with 47 shots as a team.
UM-Dearborn is right back at home to take on No. 10 Davenport University at 7:30 p.m. Friday at the UM-Dearborn Ice Arena.
