DEARBORN, Mich. -- The No. 9 University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team secured a 3-0 victory over Michigan State on Saturday (Feb. 3). The Wolverines latest victory completes the series sweep over the Spartans.
The first period saw UM-Dearborn's Amy Palaian score an unassisted goal at the 14:48 mark. In the second period, Samantha Sensoli scored on a power play, with an assist from Taylor Spence, at the 5:04 mark. Palaian scored again on a power play, assisted by Andi Evers and Sensoli, at the 10:25 mark. The third period had no scoring.
UM-Dearborn goalie Kenna Borso recorded a shutout, making 37 saves in the game. Michigan State goalie Brooklyn Maddox made 29 saves but allowed three goals. UM-Dearborn had 32 shots on goal, while Michigan State had 37.
The game was not without penalties, with both teams racking up six infraction minutes each. UM-Dearborn capitalized on two of their five power plays, while Michigan State failed to score on any of their five power plays.
