CANTON, Mich. -- After the biggest victory in program history on Wednesday. The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team was back in action against the Concordia Cardinals on Friday (Jan. 26). The Wolverines took the first game of the home-and-home series, winning 5-3.
The Wolverines utilized three first-period goals to help give them an early advantage. Cadence Pero scored an unassisted goal on the powerplay to give UM-Dearborn a 1-0 lead at the 6:35 mark. Amy Palaian added a second goal as the Wolverines again scored on the powerplay. This time the blueliners goal was assisted by Taylor Spence and Madison Schroeder.
The Cardinals scored to cut the lead in half at the 11:21 mark. However, the Wolverines would answer 31 seconds later as Pero added her second goal of the period off of assists from Andi Evers and Charlise Wharram.
Neither team would tally a goal in the second period, maintaining the 3-1 scoreline. Both teams would trade a pair of goals in the final stanza with goals from Schroeder and Ashley Savage, culminating in the 5-3 final.
