IWU DEFEATS UM-DEARBORN IN PROGRAM'S FIRST VARSITY MATCH
MARION, Ind. - A new era in University of Michigan-Dearborn athletics began Saturday, with the women's soccer program playing its first regular-season contest as a varsity sponsored sport, taking on Indiana Wesleyan University in Marion, Ind.

The Wolverines, under head coach Danielle Dow, fell to the Wildcats 8-0 in the contest to begin the season 0-1.
Freshman goalkeeper Jordan Anheuser (FR/Canton, MI) kept the Wolverines close early and finished with five saves in the loss. Sophomore Jenna Rogers (SO/South Lyon, MI), also a member of the UM-Dearborn women's basketball team, recorded a shot for the Wolverines.
The starters in the first contest for UM-Dearborn included Anheuser, Rogers, Dalianth Gomez-Llanos (SR/Lincoln Park, MI), Kirsten Burek (FR/Dearborn, MI), Guadalupe Rodriguez (JR/Taylor, MI), Valeria Cossyleon (SR/Detroit, MI), Erin McDonald (SR/Livonia, MI), Heidi Newman (FR/Dearborn, MI), Madison Caswell (FR/Warren, MI), Kathleen Rubenson (SR/Livonia, MI) and Madison Day (SO/Canton, MI).
IWU got three goals from Tia Sanford and two from Lydia Schmidt.
The Wolverines continue the nonconference season against Adrian College at 7 p.m. Monday in Adrian, Mich.
