DEARBORN, Mich. -- The No. 9 University of Michigan-Dearborn women's ice hockey team pulled off a thrilling 3-2 victory over the No. 8 University of Michigan-Ann Arbor on Saturday afternoon, securing a hard-fought win on home ice.
The game started with a quick strike from Michigan-Ann Arbor. Lucy Hanson, assisted by Julia Lindahl, put the visitors ahead just 1:27 into the first period. Despite the early deficit, UM-Dearborn responded with a dominant second period, netting three unanswered goals to take control of the game.
In the second period, Nicole Hahn sparked the comeback with a power-play goal at 1:42, assisted by Maddison McIndoo and Maya Ferracciolo. Just minutes later, at 5:30, Charlise Wharram gave UM-Dearborn its first lead with another power-play tally, assisted by Hahn. The Wolverines weren't done yet, as Maya Ferracciolo added another goal at 8:35, with assists from Nicole Hahn and Maddison McIndoo, making it 3-1.
The third period saw UofM-Ann Arbor try to mount a comeback, and they cut the deficit to one at 8:13 with a goal from Grace Garbaty, assisted by Kelsey Swanson and Katherine German. Despite several offensive pushes, UM-Dearborn's defense, led by a strong performance from goalie Kenna Borso, held firm and secured the victory.
