ROCHESTER, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn baseball team returned to action to complete a suspended contest before earning a second victory on the day, sweeping Rochester Christian (Mich.) with a 9-6 extra-inning win followed by a 6-3 triumph.
UM-Dearborn resumed its March 30 matchup in the 10th inning and wasted no time seizing control. In a game that featured multiple momentum swings, the Wolverines broke a 6-6 deadlock with a three-run 10th inning. A sacrifice fly from Max Granatstein plated the go-ahead run before Brady Dion added an RBI single. The Wolverines tacked on an insurance run following a Rochester Christian error to extend the lead to 9-6.
Earlier in the contest, UM-Dearborn showed resilience in climbing back from a 4-2 deficit. The Wolverines capitalized on key opportunities in the seventh inning, tying the game at 4-4 before taking a 5-4 lead on a sacrifice fly from Carlo Corona. After Rochester Christian forced extra innings with a run in the ninth, UM-Dearborn delivered in the clutch to secure the win.
On the mound, Brady Dion earned the win with a scoreless inning of relief, while Matt Cheetam shut the door in the 10th with a dominant save, striking out the side.
The Wolverines carried that momentum into game two, jumping out to an early 2-0 lead in the second inning behind aggressive baserunning and timely hitting. Rochester Christian responded to take a 3-2 advantage midway through the game, but UM-Dearborn answered with a decisive sixth inning.
James Forner tied the game with an RBI double before the Wolverines capitalized on defensive miscues to push across two more runs and reclaim the lead at 5-3. Roberto Torres added an insurance run in the seventh with an RBI double to extend the advantage.
UM-Dearborn's pitching staff combined for a strong outing in the nightcap, limiting Rochester Christian to three runs. Alex Schmitt was credited with the win in relief, while Zack Lemke secured the save with 1.2 scoreless innings to close out the 6-3 victory.
Offensively, the Wolverines tallied nine hits in game two, with multiple contributors throughout the lineup. Dion led the way with two hits and two runs scored, while Torres, Forner, and Schmitt each delivered key RBIs.
