UM-Dearborn Cross Country Competes at Warrior Challenge
Elena Wheeler and Brett Leidal were the top competitors on Friday at the Warrior Challenge.
NEW BOSTON, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn cross country teams took to the course on Friday afternoon at the Warrior Challenge hosted by Wayne State at Willow Metropark, with both the men's and women's squads gaining valuable racing experience against a deep collegiate field.
In the women's 6K, senior Elena Wheeler once again led the Wolverines, crossing in 24:43.6 to finish 44th overall. She was followed by senior Kaitlyn Bourque (26:07.2), freshman Valeria Miranda-Diaz (26:38.7), sophomore Itzel Huerta-Martinez (28:40.4), and freshman Tariyah Dawson (31:16.9) to round out UM-Dearborn's scoring five. Freshmen Elizabeth Lambert and Aarya Dhakal also made their collegiate debuts to complete the lineup. As a team, the Wolverines placed ninth with 250 points, finishing ahead of Montcalm CC.
On the men's side, competing over an 8K course, senior Brett Leidal paced UM-Dearborn in 27:52.8 for 49th place. He was backed by senior Anderson Gattis (28:41.5), junior John Borowicz (30:20.7), senior Isaac Tiernan (31:22.1), and senior Adam Haag (32:39.9) to complete the scoring five. The Wolverines finished ninth with 266 points, edging Oakland CC in the team standings.
