Strong Finishes and School Records Highlight WHAC Championships
Elena Wheeler and Kaitlyn Bourque each set the school record at the WHAC Championships.
ADRIAN, Mich. — The University of Michigan-Dearborn cross country teams wrapped up their 2025 seasons with standout performances at the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) Championships on Saturday, highlighted by two new school records in the women's race from seniors Elena Wheeler and Kaitlyn Bourque.
In the women's 6K, Wheeler continued her exceptional senior campaign with a time of 23:11.30, breaking the program's school record while placing 20th overall in a deep and competitive field. Bourque wasn't far behind, crossing the line in 23:21.30 to finish 22nd and also surpass the previous UM-Dearborn record. Both runners delivered personal-best performances to close out their collegiate cross country careers in memorable fashion.
Freshman Valeria Miranda-Diaz also impressed with a time of 24:18.00, while Tariyah Dawson (27:19.20) and Elizabeth Lambert (27:36.10) rounded out the Wolverines' top five finishers.
On the men's side, senior Brett Leidal led the Wolverines with a strong run of 27:38.30, placing 52nd overall in the men's 8K field. Leidal capped his UM-Dearborn career with another consistent performance at the conference meet. Anderson Gattis followed in 28:27.20, while John Borowicz clocked a 29:06.80 to round out the Wolverines' top three finishers.
