ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn softball team opened their season up with a pair of losses against NCAA D1 Oakland University. The Grizzlies took game one 3-0. However, the UM-Dearborn softball team jumped out in front early but could not overcome a mid-game rally in a 4–3 loss at Oakland University on February 13.
Oakland struck first in the opening inning, capitalizing on a throwing error to take a 1–0 lead. The Wolverines responded in the third inning with a burst of offense to take control.
Sienna Potter tied the game with a solo home run to left field. Later in the inning, Lindsay Marlewitz delivered an RBI double to give UM-Dearborn a 2–1 edge, and Maegen Boehm followed with an RBI groundout to extend the lead to 3–1.
Oakland answered quickly in the bottom half of the third. A solo home run cut the deficit to one before a triple and a Michigan-Dearborn error allowed the tying run to score. The Golden Grizzlies added what proved to be the game-winning run in the fourth inning on an RBI triple to take a 4–3 lead.
The Wolverines were limited to four hits in the contest, with Braylin Grueter recording two of them. After allowing three runs in 2.1 innings, Oakland's bullpen shut down the UM-Dearborn offense. Jessica Nelson earned the win in relief, tossing 4.2 hitless innings while striking out nine.
Brooklynn Jones went the distance in the circle for UM-Dearborn, allowing five hits and four runs (three earned) while striking out five.
