Sylvania, OH - The volleyball team traveled to Sylvania, Ohio Wednesday night to take on the Lourdes University Gray Wolves. Coming off a tough four set loss to Concordia, the Wolverines were looking to bounce back. Unfortunately, the Gray Wolves had other ideas. Lourdes swept the match (25-9, 25-16, 25-15) to improve their record to 14-10 overall and 4-5 in the WHAC. The loss for Michigan-Dearborn drops them to 7-26 overall and 1-8 in the WHAC.
Things did not start out well for the Wolverines as Lourdes jumped over them early in the first set to take it 25-9. Michigan-Dearborn would fight hard in the second and third sets where between the two sets there were 16 ties and 7 lead changes. Lourdes just proved to be too much as they amassed 34 kills and 8 service aces in the three sets. The Wolverines had a total of 23 kills and zero service aces. Wolverines senior Emily Tjapkes had 21 assists and 8 digs on the night, while freshman Danielle Horvath also had 8 digs.
The volleyball team will head to Houghton, New York this weekend for the 2013 Highlander Invitational hosted by Houghton College. Michigan-Dearborn opens up play Friday, October 25th at 4:00pm against SUNY-Canton.
