Dearborn, MI - The volleyball team looked to continue their momentum after going 3-1 at the Houghton College Tournament over the weekend. However, the Marygrove College Mustangs had other ideas. The Mustangs defeated the Wolverines 3-1 on Tuesday night. Michigan-Dearborn (10-28, 1-9) won the first set 30-28 as both teams fought back and forth throughout the first set. In the second set, the Wolverines took an early four point lead, but Marygrove (17-13, 2-8) came out strong and won the second set 25-21. They would carry that win into a match victory winning the final two sets by the same score of 25-21.
Seniors Nia Martin and Danielle Campbell led the Wolverines with 17 and 16 kills respectively. Attack errors would doom Michigan-Dearborn as the team committed 43 attack errors on the night. Senior setter Emily Tjapkes had 47 assists and 17 digs in the match. The match was Faculty Appreciation Night as each senior, (Campbell, Martin, Tjapkes, Sabrina Garmo, and Brittany Yanos), each honored a faculty member who most influenced them during their careers here. Each of the faculty members received a plaque as each senior spent a couple minutes talking about their influence in the classroom.
The volleyball team heads to Missouri and compete in thhree matches hosted by Washington University in St. Louis. The Wolverines first match is at 7:15pm against host Washington University.
