De La Paz Earns WHAC Defensive Player of the Week Honors
Sophomore Gabriel De La Paz delivered a dominant all-around performance to help Michigan-Dearborn control possession, earning Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week recognition.
DEARBORN, Mich. -- Sophomore midfielder Gabriel De La Paz has been named the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Defensive Player of the Week, the league office announced.
De La Paz played a pivotal role in the Wolverines' win over Taylor University, excelling at the faceoff circle and helping UM-Dearborn control possession throughout the contest. The Huntley, Ill. native won 13 of his 19 faceoff attempts, posting an impressive 68 percent success rate while consistently setting the tone for the Wolverines.
In addition to his work in the circle, De La Paz made his presence felt across the field. He tallied one goal and two assists offensively while scooping up seven ground balls, showcasing his ability to impact the game in all phases.
His efforts proved instrumental in addressing a key area of focus for Michigan-Dearborn, as his faceoff success helped generate valuable possessions and momentum for the Wolverines.
De La Paz and the Wolverines will look to carry that momentum forward as they continue conference play this Wednesday against Siena Heights.
