Wolverines Rally Past Lawrence Tech with Dominant Second-Half Surge
UM-Dearborn limited the Blue Devils to a single goal in the second half, securing a 12-9 come-from-behind victory.
DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn lacrosse used a four-goal third quarter to flip the momentum and a steady fourth to pull away, defeating Lawrence Tech 12-9 on Wednesday night at Crestwood High School.
Trailing 8-6 late in the first half, the Wolverines (4-4, 1-2) responded with a decisive run out of the break, holding Lawrence Tech scoreless in the third quarter while netting four straight goals to take control of the contest.
Cooper Hallwood led the offensive effort with four goals and two assists, while Jeremy Fancett added a hat trick. Garrett Kern chipped in two goals, and Dylan Thorpe contributed a goal and two assists as Michigan-Dearborn showcased a balanced attack.
After a back-and-forth opening half that featured three ties in the first quarter, Lawrence Tech built its largest lead at 8-6 late in the second. Michigan-Dearborn answered just before halftime and carried that momentum into the third, where Fancett's man-up goal sparked the run. Goals from Kern and back-to-back scores by Hallwood capped the surge, giving the Wolverines a 10-8 advantage heading into the fourth.
UM-Dearborn extended the lead early in the final frame on a man-up goal from Kern before Fancett added insurance midway through the quarter. The defense held firm down the stretch, limiting Lawrence Tech to just one goal over the final 30 minutes.
In goal, Owen Reed recorded 14 saves to earn the win, anchoring a defensive unit that made key second-half adjustments after allowing eight first-half goals.
The Wolverines capitalized on extra-man opportunities, converting 2-of-4 chances, and matched Lawrence Tech at the faceoff stripe (12-24) in a tightly contested possession battle.
With the win, Michigan-Dearborn improves to 4-4 overall and 1-2 in conference play.
