Wolverines Outlast Taylor in 19-15 Offensive Shootout
The University of Michigan-Dearborn men’s lacrosse team used a dominant first half and balanced offensive production to secure a 19-15 road victory over Taylor University on Saturday afternoon.
UPLAND, Ind. -- In a game defined by pace and offensive execution, the University of Michigan-Dearborn lacrosse team (5-5, 2-3) jumped out early and held off multiple Taylor rallies to earn the win.
After falling behind 3-0 in the opening minutes, the Wolverines responded emphatically with an 8-1 run to close the first quarter. Dylan Thorpe ignited the surge with three goals in the period, while man-up opportunities proved critical as Michigan-Dearborn converted all four of its extra-man chances in the quarter.
Holding an 8-4 lead after one, the Wolverines continued to apply pressure in the second. Goals from Jeremy Fancett, Aidan Meyers, Cooper Hallwood, and Cole Rosenwald helped extend the advantage to 12-9 at halftime despite Taylor's continued offensive push.
Michigan-Dearborn created further separation in the third quarter, outscoring Taylor 6-3. Hallwood and Fancett each added to their goal totals during the stretch, while Charlie Woodcock and Reece Rath also found the back of the net to push the lead to 18-11 entering the final frame.
Taylor mounted one last push in the fourth, scoring three of the first four goals to cut the deficit to four, but Hallwood's fourth goal of the game midway through the quarter provided a key insurance marker. The Wolverines' early cushion ultimately proved decisive in the 19-15 final.
Hallwood and Fancett led the offensive effort with four goals apiece, while Thorpe added three goals and two assists. Meyers contributed two goals, and Rosenwald facilitated the attack with a team-high five assists.
In goal, Owen Reed earned the win with 18 saves against 33 shots on goal.
As a team, Michigan-Dearborn capitalized on special teams, going 4-for-8 on man-up opportunities, including a perfect 4-for-4 in the opening quarter.
