Wolverines Upended at Home
The Wolverines were unable to overcome an early onslaught from the Cougars en route to their first loss of the season.
BEVERLY HILLS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-8 decision to Columbia (MO) on Tuesday evening at DCD Fieldhouse. With the result, UM-Dearborn moves to 1-1 on the young season.
First Quarter
Columbia opened the scoring at the 10:21 mark, but UM-Dearborn responded quickly as Cole Rosenwald finished a feed from Reece Rath to even the score at 1-1. The Cougars added two more goals before Garrett Kern found the net with 2:47 remaining in the quarter to pull the Wolverines within one, 3-2, after the opening frame.
Second Quarter
The Cougars seized momentum in the second quarter, outscoring UM-Dearborn 5-1 to take an 8-3 lead into halftime. Aidan Meyers accounted for the Wolverines' lone goal of the period, but Columbia capitalized on transition opportunities and controlled possession down the stretch of the half.
Third Quarter
UM-Dearborn battled back in the third, generating consistent offensive pressure. Rosenwald and Meyers each netted their second goals of the contest, and Rath added a score to trim the deficit. However, Columbia continued to answer, maintaining a 12-6 advantage heading into the final quarter.
Fourth Quarter
After Jeremy Fancett scored off another assist from Rath to make it 13-7, Columbia responded with four of the next five goals, including two man-up tallies, to extend the margin. Cooper Hallwood closed the scoring for the Wolverines with two minutes remaining.
