Wolverines Fall at Aquinas Despite Strong Second-Half Push
The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team fell on the road on Tuesday (Nov. 25).
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team battled back from a tough first half, but a decisive third quarter by Aquinas proved too much to overcome as the Wolverines fell 67–55 in WHAC play Tuesday night.
UM-Dearborn started well defensively, trailing just 16–13 after the opening quarter, but the offense stalled in the second as the Saints limited the Wolverines to five points to take a 23–18 lead into halftime. Aquinas used that momentum to break the game open with a 24-point third quarter, building a lead UM-Dearborn could not erase despite a 20-point effort in the fourth.
Marissa Thomas powered the Wolverines with a game-high 23 points, knocking down four threes and going 7-of-9 at the line. Tamia Tounsel added 15 points and two assists, while Bailey Stimac chipped in 12 points, five rebounds, and four steals while playing all 40 minutes. UM-Dearborn forced 19 Aquinas turnovers but struggled from the field, shooting 28 percent overall.
Aquinas countered with balanced scoring, led by Paige Guernsey's 22 points and a double-double performance on the glass. Rhema Dozier added 19, including five triples, while the Saints controlled the boards with a 47–32 rebounding advantage.
