Wolverines Dominate Defiance, Cruise to 84–47 Home Victory
A balanced attack and suffocating defense powered the University of Michigan-Dearborn women’s basketball team to an 84–47 win over Defiance College on Saturday afternoon, as the Wolverines pulled away early and never allowed the Yellow Jackets to find a rhythm.
DEARBORN, Mich. — The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team delivered a wire-to-wire performance on Saturday afternoon, rolling past Defiance College (Ohio), 84–47, on January 3.
Michigan-Dearborn set the tone early and never looked back, building a 19–12 lead after the first quarter before extending the margin to 40–23 at halftime. The Wolverines continued to apply pressure on both ends of the floor in the second half, outscoring the Yellow Jackets 24–14 in the third quarter to put the game out of reach.
Tamia Tounsel led all scorers with a dominant all-around effort, pouring in 28 points on 11-of-16 shooting while pulling down a game-high 15 rebounds to secure a double-double. Marissa Thomas added 16 points, going a perfect 10-of-12 from the free-throw line, while Sydney Dixon chipped in 12 points and five assists.
Michigan-Dearborn controlled the glass throughout the contest, holding a 50–38 rebounding advantage and limiting Defiance to just 23.0 percent shooting from the field. The Wolverines also forced 24 turnovers, converting defensive pressure into transition opportunities.
Off the bench, Tori Kostuck provided a spark with eight points, 10 rebounds, and four steals, while Nyla Hood contributed across the stat sheet with four assists, three steals, and two blocks.
Defiance was led by Shaunie Little, who finished with 10 points, but the Yellow Jackets struggled offensively, shooting just 14-for-61 from the field and 3-for-23 from beyond the arc.
Michigan-Dearborn closed the game with a strong fourth quarter, outscoring Defiance 20–10 to cap off a comprehensive team victory.
