UM-Dearborn Falls on the Road Against Cleary
A tough night offensively sent the University of Michigan-Dearborn to an 80–53 setback at Cleary on Tuesday night, as the Wolverines struggled to find consistency against the Cougars’ balanced attack.
LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team was unable to keep pace with Cleary on the road, falling 80–53 on Wednesday (Jan.27).
UM-Dearborn got off to a slow start, scoring just 10 points in the opening quarter and trailing 35–22 at halftime. The Wolverines struggled to establish an offensive rhythm early, shooting just 25.0 percent from the field in the first half.
The Wolverines showed their most productive stretch in the third quarter, scoring 22 points, but Cleary answered with a 30-point frame of its own to extend the lead and put the game out of reach. UM-Dearborn was limited to nine points in the fourth quarter as the Cougars closed out the win.
UM-Dearborn finished the night shooting 30.9 percent from the field and just 2-of-21 (9.5 percent) from three-point range. The Wolverines went 17-for-25 at the free-throw line but were outrebounded 43–33 and committed 14 turnovers.
Marissa Thomas led UM-Dearborn with 14 points, adding four rebounds, three steals, and a block. Bailey Stimac contributed 11 points and six rebounds, while Tamia Tounsel added nine points. Tori Kostuck chipped in seven points on 3-of-4 shooting.
Defensively, the Wolverines recorded nine steals but were unable to slow Cleary's balanced scoring effort, which featured four players in double figures.
