Thomas Powers Wolverines Past Defiance with 30-Point Performance
Behind a dominant 30-point outing from Marissa Thomas, the University of Michigan-Dearborn women’s basketball team secured a 76–62 road victory over Defiance College on Saturday afternoon.
DEFIANCE, Ohio -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn women's basketball team put together a balanced four-quarter effort to defeat Defiance College (OH) 76–62 on February 14.
UM-Dearborn (5-21, 3-17) controlled the game from the opening tip, building an 18–12 lead after the first quarter and extending it to 34–20 by halftime. The Wolverines continued to maintain separation in the third, taking a 54–34 advantage into the final period before closing out the 14-point win.
Marissa Thomas delivered a standout performance, pouring in 30 points on 10-of-18 shooting, including three three-pointers, while adding seven rebounds and five assists. She was efficient at the free-throw line as well, converting 7-of-9 attempts.
Tamia Tounsel added 12 points and 10 rebounds for a double-double, anchoring the interior on both ends of the floor. Nyla Hood provided a strong spark off the bench with nine points and six rebounds, while Tori Kostuck contributed nine points on a perfect 3-for-3 shooting from the field.
The Wolverines dominated the glass, outrebounding Defiance 55–47, including 17 offensive rebounds that led to second-chance opportunities. UM-Dearborn also forced 23 turnovers and collected 13 steals, applying consistent defensive pressure throughout the contest.
Despite 17 points from Taylor Haynes and 16 from Jourdyn Wynn for Defiance, the Yellow Jackets shot just 28.9 percent from the field. UM-Dearborn capitalized on defensive stops and controlled the tempo for most of the afternoon to secure the conference road win.
