Wolverines Earn Shootout Win Over Indiana Tech
The University of Michigan-Dearborn men’s ice hockey team earned a hard-fought result Saturday night, skating to a 1–1 draw through overtime before defeating Indiana Tech in a shootout at The Fieldhouse.
DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team battled Indiana Tech to a 1–1 draw through regulation and overtime before securing a 2–1 shootout victory at home off of the stick of Jake Emery.
A scoreless first period set the tone for a tightly contested matchup, with both teams trading chances but finding little space offensively. The Wolverines broke through early in the second period while shorthanded, as Brenden Paden scored at 5:58 off assists from David Dell and Zak Januszkowski to give UM-Dearborn a 1–0 lead.
Indiana Tech answered shortly after on the power play, with Mason Bazaluk tying the game at 7:15. From there, both defenses and goaltenders took control. Neither team scored in the third period or overtime despite steady pressure, as the Wolverines outshot Indiana Tech 12–4 in the third and 29–30 overall.
Jack Miller was strong in goal for UM-Dearborn, stopping 29 of 30 shots through 65 minutes of play. The Wolverines killed key penalties, including extended special-teams situations in the second and third periods, to keep the game level.
The contest was decided in the shootout, where UM-Dearborn converted twice. Goals from David Dell and Emery proved decisive, lifting the Wolverines to a 2–1 shootout win.
