Second-Period Surge Lifts Davenport Past UM-Dearborn at Allen Park
A three-goal burst early in the second period proved decisive as Michigan-Dearborn fell 5–1 to Davenport University on Tuesday night at Allen Park Ice Arena, despite a power-play goal and a strong third-period push by the Wolverines.
ALLEN PARK, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team was unable to overcome a fast start and sustained offensive pressure from Davenport, falling 5–1 to the Panthers on Tuesday night at Allen Park Ice Arena.
The game was scoreless for much of the opening period before Davenport broke through late, as Jack Kelly found the back of the net at 17:46 to give the visitors a 1–0 edge after 20 minutes. The Wolverines were limited to nine shots in the first frame but stayed within striking distance behind solid early goaltending.
Davenport quickly seized control in the second period, scoring twice in the opening three minutes. Kelly added his second of the night at 1:32 before Robert McLaughlin made it 3–0 just 58 seconds later. The Panthers extended the lead to 4–0 on a power-play goal by Peter Stojcevski at 6:06.
UM-Dearborn responded with its lone goal of the night at 12:34 of the second period. Zak Januszkowski converted on the power play, finishing a setup from Caleb Cathcart and Bailey Byrd to cut the deficit to 4–1 heading into the final intermission.
The Wolverines carried play for stretches in the third period, outshooting Davenport 19–10, but were unable to generate additional offense. Ryder McMillen sealed the outcome for the Panthers with a goal at 8:27, pushing the margin back to four.
Davenport finished with a 43–34 advantage in shots and went 1-for-4 on the power play. Michigan-Dearborn capitalized once in three power-play opportunities. Kyler Lowden earned the win in goal for Davenport with 33 saves, while Trevor Heslop and Isaac Kolasa combined for 38 saves for the Wolverines.
