Wolverines Hold Off Cleary for 3–2 Home Victory on Senior Night
Three goals over the first two periods proved enough for the University of Michigan-Dearborn men’s ice hockey team, as the Wolverines held off a late push from Cleary to earn a 3–2 win Friday night in Dearborn.

DEARBORN, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's ice hockey team secured an important conference victory on February 13, defeating Cleary 3–2 to improve to 16-13-1 overall and 12-7-0 in league play.
UM-Dearborn opened the scoring midway through the first period when Jamieson Franz found the back of the net at 11:04, finishing assists from Ryan Teets and David Dell to give the Wolverines a 1–0 lead.
The Wolverines extended the advantage early in the second period on the power play. Will Barrett capitalized at 6:21 off a setup from Bailey Byrd to make it 2–0. Cleary answered with a power-play goal of its own at 10:57 to cut the deficit in half.
Late in the second, UM-Dearborn regained its two-goal cushion. Noah Szmagaj scored at 18:02, finishing a play created by Joey Cibor and Zak Januszkowski to send the Wolverines into the third period ahead 3–1.
Cleary made things interesting in the final frame, scoring at 10:46 to trim the margin to 3–2. The Cougars applied steady pressure down the stretch, but Trevor Heslop stood firm in goal, stopping 24 of 26 shots to preserve the victory.
UM-Dearborn outshot Cleary 28–26 and converted on its lone power-play opportunity, while also killing off one of two Cleary man advantages. Strong defensive structure in the closing minutes allowed the Wolverines to seal the one-goal win and secure two valuable conference points.
