Wolverines Earn First Win Under Head Coach Mo Bazzi

DEARBORN, Mich. – The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team opened the 2025–26 season in thrilling fashion, earning a 92–83 victory over IU Kokomo on Saturday afternoon at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse. The win marked the first career victory for Head Coach Mo Bazzi, who made his debut on the Wolverines' sideline.
Senior guard Jackson Reynolds led the way with 30 points, going 9-for-16 from the floor and a perfect 10-for-10 at the free-throw line. Luc Laketa added 18 points and four rebounds, while Ali Homayed anchored the frontcourt with eight points, seven boards, and three steals.
The Wolverines (1-0) trailed by one at halftime, 44-43, before outscoring the Cougars 48-40 in the second half. A balanced attack and sharp free-throw shooting (18-for-21, 85.7%) helped UM-Dearborn seal the win down the stretch.
UM-Dearborn also got strong contributions off the bench from Ali Hassan and Logan Hamama, who each chipped in nine points. The Wolverines forced 19 IU Kokomo turnovers and recorded 13 steals in the victory.
The win gives Coach Bazzi his first as a collegiate head coach, marking a memorable start to his tenure leading the Maize and Blue.
