Wolverines Fall Just Short in Shootout Against Mount Vernon Nazarene
The Wolverines are back in action on Saturday against IU East.
DEARBORN, Mich. – In a high-scoring battle that came down to the wire, the University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team fell 94-91 to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Wednesday night at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
Junior guard Jackson Reynolds led the Wolverines with 26 points, going 10-for-12 from the free-throw line while knocking down four triples. Collin Miller added 15 points and four rebounds, while Kevin Gillenwater and Logan Hamama each chipped in 11 off the bench to keep UM-Dearborn within striking distance all night.
The Wolverines (1-4) shot 47.1% from the field and connected on 10 three-pointers but couldn't overcome a hot-shooting Cougars team that hit 57.1% overall and 50% from beyond the arc. Mount Vernon Nazarene (3-1) was led by Peyton Heiss, who scored 25 points on 9-of-14 shooting, including six threes, while Devin Dreier added 20.
UM-Dearborn led 48-44 at halftime after a balanced offensive effort, but the Cougars surged ahead midway through the second half with timely perimeter shooting. Despite a late push from Reynolds and a deep three from Hamama to close the gap, Mount Vernon held on in the final seconds at the free-throw line.
