Wolverines Fall Just Short in 66–64 Road Loss at Northwestern Ohio
Michigan-Dearborn battled to the final possession but was unable to overcome a narrow halftime deficit, dropping a 66–64 decision at Northwestern Ohio on Saturday afternoon.
LIMA, Ohio – University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball came up just short in a tightly contested road matchup, falling 66–64 to Northwestern Ohio on Saturday afternoon at The Garage.
The Wolverines trailed by two at halftime, 33–31, after a back-and-forth opening half that featured seven lead changes. UM-Dearborn kept pace offensively behind Jackson Reynolds, who carried the scoring load early, but Northwestern Ohio was able to maintain a slim edge heading into the break.
Both teams matched each other point for point in the second half, each scoring 33, as the game remained within one possession for much of the final 20 minutes. UM-Dearborn had opportunities down the stretch but was unable to convert in the closing moments, allowing the Racers to hold on for the two-point victory.
Reynolds led all scorers with 20 points, adding three rebounds and two assists while playing all 40 minutes. Luc Laketa recorded a double-digit scoring effort with 10 points and a team-high nine rebounds, while Ali Homayed added eight points on an efficient 4-for-6 shooting.
Northwestern Ohio was paced by Antonio King, who finished with 29 points and 11 rebounds to lead the Racers. The Wolverines finished the game shooting 39.7 percent from the field and 24.1 percent from beyond the arc, while Northwestern Ohio went 16-for-26 at the free-throw line, a margin that proved decisive in the final outcome.
The Wolverines dropped to 4-12 overall and 3-7 in conference play with the loss and will look to rebound as they continue their road stretch.
