Wolverines Fall in Overtime to Cougars
An overtime surge by Cleary proved to be the difference Tuesday night, as the University of Michigan-Dearborn men’s basketball team came up just short in a 99–94 road loss after a tightly contested regulation finish.
LANSING, Mich. -- The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team battled through 45 minutes but was outscored 15–10 in overtime in a 99–94 setback at Cleary (MI) on January 27.
UM-Dearborn put together a strong first half, taking a 41–39 lead into the break behind efficient shooting and steady offensive execution. The Wolverines continued to trade baskets with Cleary throughout the second half, scoring 43 points over the final 20 minutes to keep the game locked in a one-possession margin late.
With regulation tied at 84, the game moved into overtime, where Cleary capitalized at the free-throw line and on second-chance opportunities. UM-Dearborn stayed within striking distance, but the Cougars' ability to convert down the stretch sealed the outcome.
Jackson Reynolds led all scorers with 31 points, going 14-for-15 from the free-throw line while adding four assists. Luc Laketa contributed a well-rounded effort with 10 points, five rebounds, five assists, four steals, and two blocks, while Thomas Dillard IV added 10 points and five rebounds. Collin Miller provided a spark off the bench with 11 points on 5-of-7 shooting, and Ali Hassan and Abed Abuzahrah chipped in eight points apiece.
UM-Dearborn finished the night shooting 49.3 percent from the field and 41.2 percent from three-point range, but was outrebounded 44–39 and allowed Cleary to attempt 34 free throws, which proved decisive in the extra period.
Despite the loss, the Wolverines showed resilience and offensive balance, pushing a conference opponent to overtime on the road as they continue through league play.
