Hot Shooting Lifts Defiance Past Wolverines, 94–71
Defiance College used efficient perimeter shooting and control of the boards to pull away from the University of Michigan-Dearborn men’s basketball team, handing the Wolverines a 94–71 loss on Saturday afternoon at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
DEARBORN, Mich. — The University of Michigan-Dearborn men's basketball team was unable to overcome a hot-shooting performance from Defiance College, falling 94–71 on Saturday afternoon at the UM-Dearborn Fieldhouse.
Defiance took control early, building a 42–29 halftime lead behind efficient perimeter shooting and second-chance opportunities. The Yellow Jackets continued to apply pressure in the second half, outscoring the Wolverines 52–42 to pull away for the road victory.
Jackson Reynolds led Michigan-Dearborn with a game-high 26 points, attacking the rim consistently and converting 13-of-17 free throws. Luc Laketa added 11 points, while Collin Miller and Kevin Gillenwater chipped in seven points apiece.
Defiance shot 47.2 percent from the field and knocked down 12 three-pointers at a 44.4 percent clip, creating consistent separation throughout the contest. Evan Angstmann paced the Yellow Jackets with 24 points, including five three-pointers, while Wren Sheets recorded a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds.
Michigan-Dearborn battled on the glass but was out-rebounded 50–32 and struggled to find offensive rhythm, shooting 38.7 percent from the floor and 25.0 percent from beyond the arc. Defiance also capitalized at the free-throw line, going 14-of-18.
